76 students from Petare participated in a programme through which they will transform a park in their community.
This year, we were delighted to once again fund a community development project in Petare - the biggest favela in Caracas - through one of our longstanding partners. Through the programme, 76 sixth-grade children from a local school will transform a public park in their community.
The group have just completed the first phase of the programme, ‘Imagine’ - which teaches important practical skills (such as measurement, proportion and scaling) as well as reinforcing the importance of sustainability, community identity, and creativity in design.
Despite complications caused by the pandemic, which meant that a large part of the course had to be virtual, the group ended up with seven scale models of their ideas for the space, which will be incorporated into the final design and executed in the next phase, ‘Transform’.
